About Darren

I've been where you are. That's not a line — it's why I do this.

Founder of Thrive UK Coaching. Based in Leyland, Lancashire. Straight-talking, no-jargon, genuinely interested in helping you move forward.

Darren Salmon — Thrive UK Coaching

The honest version

I spent years running a busy café in Leyland — managing a team, serving the community, keeping plates spinning. From the outside it probably looked like I had it together. On the inside, I was carrying more than anyone knew.

The overwhelm, the mental noise, the feeling of being all over the place but never quite getting anywhere — I thought that was just life. I thought I was just bad at coping. It took a long time to realise that wasn't a character flaw. It was something worth understanding and working with.

I've lived with the patterns that I now help others work through — the stop-start cycles, the pressure of always feeling like you should be doing more, the difficulty of setting boundaries when you care deeply about the people around you. I've also experienced what happens when you start to get honest about those things instead of pushing through them.

That shift — from managing and coping to actually understanding and choosing — is what Thrive UK Coaching is built on.

What I believe about coaching

I don't believe in quick fixes, scripts, or telling you what to do. I believe in honest conversation, proper listening, and working with what's actually going on — not the polished version you show everyone else.

Real progress is usually quieter than people expect. It's not a sudden transformation. It's a series of small, honest moments where something shifts — where you see yourself a bit more clearly, and take one step forward instead of spinning in place.

My job isn't to fix you. You're not broken. My job is to be genuinely useful — to help you cut through the noise, understand what's actually getting in your way, and find a path forward that fits your real life.

How I work

Honest, not harsh

I'll tell you what I actually think — gently, but straight. No empty affirmations, no telling you what you want to hear.

Practical, not theoretical

Everything we work on is grounded in your actual life. Not textbook exercises, but real tools you can use the same week.

At your pace

There's no pressure to move faster than you're ready for. Progress looks different for everyone, and that's fine.

In your corner

Between sessions, you're not on your own. I'm here when you need a nudge, a reality check, or just someone to think it through with.

A bit of background

I'm from Lancashire. I've spent most of my working life in business — running teams, managing pressure, building things from scratch. I've also spent a good chunk of that time feeling like I was doing it harder than it needed to be.

My coaching practice is built around four areas: awareness and acceptance, growth and connection, ownership and action, and balance and boundaries. These aren't just frameworks — they're the things I've had to work through myself, and the things I see people struggling with most consistently.

I work with adults who feel stuck, overloaded, or like they've lost a bit of themselves somewhere along the way. Often people with ADHD-type traits who've spent years being told to try harder, focus more, and just get on with it. I know how exhausting that is. And I know there's a better way.

I'm not a therapist. I'm a coach. I work with people who are fundamentally capable and resourceful but need a bit of honest support and a clearer path forward. If that sounds like you, I'd love to have a conversation.

If any of that resonates — let's talk.
